SUMMARY:Northwood House: The Halloween Haunted History Tour (with Author Tim Wander)
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Halloween night for a special spooky evening featuring ghost stories\, myths\, legends and supernatural tales associated with Northwood House\,  the Island’s most haunted venue. \nThis is far more than just a walk though a darkened building on Halloween night – it’s a chance to unravel the history of the house and to find out why this rambling Georgian manor maybe so haunted as you tour the many rooms and passageways at night by candlelight.  See the cellars\, tunnels\, empty servant’s rooms and Nuns cells. The House has been a convent\, a Red Cross hospital and a boarding school…. and has\, of course\, for over 200 years hosted the wildest parties attended by Royalty from all over Europe. Each has made its mark and must have left memories in the very fabric of the building. \nIsland historian and House expert Tim Wander will be your guide on Halloween night\, telling you all about the haunted history of this iconic Island building… escorting you through the labyrinth of corridors and cellars. Only stopping to tell you who once lived there\, and maybe discover if they still do. \nCome with an open mind. Expert nothing\, but be prepared for everything. Tim will tell you how the paranormal pervades every corner of the house\, what the years of professional ghost hunters have seen and how science might offer… just some of the answers. \nLimited tickets. One night only (additional dates maybe added if demand dictates). \nTicket price: £17.50/person \nTickets include a medium sized glass of house wine or a 33cl bottle of premium beer or a hot drink and biscuits upon arrival. \nDoors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. \nSorry\, this event is for adults and teenage children only. Teenagers must be accompanied by their parent(s) or guardian(s). Wine and beer option available for over 18’s only. \nThis exclusive tour of the house is by candlelight and through darkened rooms\, so guests will need to take extra care while moving through the building. Those of a nervous disposition should only attend the event if accompanied by another person. \nNarrow stairs will be used to access the cellars and first floor of the building\, so some parts of the experience will not be suitable/accessible for those with walking difficulties or  needing a wheelchair for which we apologise in advance. \nFree parking is available in the rotunda car park\, with entrance through the main rotunda doors. \nSigned copies of Tim Wanders book “Ghosts of Northwood House” will be available to purchase on the night. \nEvent lasts approx 2- 2.5 hours. \nOther T&C’s: \n\nFull payment must be made at the time of booking. If a customer cancels their booking 7 days or more before the day of the event\, a full refund will be given.\nNo refund will be given for cancellations less than 7 days before the event\, even if the cancellation is Covid-related.\nThere are circumstances beyond our control\, such as failure of a third party to supply their services\, where we may have to cancel an event at short notice. In this event\, a full refund of the ticket price will be made to customers. Expenses such as travel and accommodation will not be refunded.\nNo persons under the age of 13 are permitted to attend the event. Teenage children must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.\nNo recording of the tour and stories are permitted.

SUMMARY:Paranormal Investigations - Halloween Awakening
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE 05/10/23 \nTHIS EVENT HAS NOW SOLD OUT – please email administrator@northwoodhouse.org if you would like to be added to a waiting list. \nParanormal Investigations: Halloween Awakening \nIt is said that the Isle of Wight is the most haunted county in England\, and it is believed by many that Northwood House is the most haunted building of them all. So there is probably no better place on the Island to carry out a real paranormal investigation to see what lies within. \nFor more than a century\, people have believed that due to the myriad of ley-lines that run beneath the Island’s landscape\, that powerful magnetic forces exist which are directly responsible for increases in supernatural energy and paranormal activity. It is widely believed in pagan circles that Northwood House lies on one such line making it centre of local attention in the spirit and ghost hunting world. \nWhatever you believe then you are probably intrigued by the prospect of the spirit world existing\, either as true believer already or as somebody who is open minded enough to the possibility. \nYou are now invited to join our experienced paranormal investigators to immerse yourselves in the deep history of this much loved\, yet seemingly haunted ancient building. \nAnd with some fascinating and unexplained  results from our previous four investigations\, who knows what or who we might uncover this time during Halloween\, when activity in the spirit world is said to reach it’s peak. Join us on one of two exclusive evenings\, where we will go in real search of  paranormal activity…be ready to experience the unexplained. \n  \n \n  \nYour experience will begin with a hot drink and briefing from our paranormal experts before the lights are extinguished and the investigation begins. In near-total darkness you will be split in to two groups and escorted around this Grade II listed building\, taking in three floors including the cellar\, narrow\, winding staircases and even a library that was once used as a morgue. Using professional ghost hunting equipment including EMF meters\, infra-red thermal scanners\, EVP sound recorders and motion detectors\, who knows what you might experience? At the end of the investigation the groups will meet up again to review discuss any unexplained activity. \nAll we know is this: these investigations are not for the faint-hearted and are aimed at those who believe in paranormal activity and the existence of the spirit world…or at least are open minded enough to find out more. If you’ve had a previous experience or an interaction with the spirit world or even seen a ghost\, please let our experts know upon arrival. \nParanormal Investigations- Halloween Awakening\, takes place on the evening of 24th and 25th October 2023 \nDoors open 9.00 pm to meet the paranormal team leaders and for a briefing of the night and what to expect. \n Investigations runs from 9.30pm  to midnight (approx). \nComplimentary tea\, coffee & biscuits available on arrival in the Rotunda entrance. \n A quick convenience break will take place for 10 minutes half way through the evening . \nA debrief will take place at the end of the investigation where people can share there experiences before going home. \nExclusive tickets only £22.50 per person. \nA very limited number of places are available on each night. \nOver 16’s only. \nThese are serious investigations and are conducted that way. Don’t expect actors in ghost costumes trying to frighten you. \n \nOther T&C’s: \n\nFull payment must be made at the time of booking. If a customer cancels their booking 7 days or more before the day of the event\, a full refund will be given.\nNo refund will be given for cancellations less than 7 days before the event.\nThere are circumstances beyond our control\, such as failure of a third party to supply their services\, where we may have to cancel an event at short notice. In this event\, a full refund of the ticket price will be made to customers. Expenses such as travel and accommodation will not be refunded.\nNo persons under the age of 16 are permitted to attend these investigations.\nStrictly no alcohol or drugs are permitted on site at any time. Smoking\, including the use of e-cigarettes\, is only permitted in designated areas prior to the investigations beginning.\nDue to the historic nature of the building\, accessibility is often limited. Regrettably therefore\, these investigations are unsuitable for anyone with a disability or mobility impairment which could directly affect their safe navigation or evacuation of the house.\nCustomers should be aware that they are attending the event at their own risk. Northwood House Charitable Trust Company Ltd  (NHCTCL) will not be responsible for any injuries sustained nor loss or damage to property. NHCTCL carries Public Liability Insurance but due to the locations being beyond what would normally be available to the public\, we recommend customers have their own third party liability insurance.\nThese investigations will take place in near-total darkness and occasionally confined spaces. As such\, they may be unsuitable for anyone with relevant phobias.\nCustomers are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible manner\, and with courtesy and respect towards the investigation team and fellow customers. Abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.\nNHCTCL is not responsible for any views expressed during the investigations. Our team of investigators offer their own perspectives and we expect customers to hold an open mind throughout the night. It is impossible to guarantee what\, if any\, activity you might experience during the investigation. Your experience could be minimal or intense\, and we accept no responsibility for what might occur as a result of paranormal activity.\nDue to the late finishing times of these events\, we ask that you respect our neighbours and leave Northwood House and the surrounding Parkland quietly. Please ensure you are not too tired to drive home.\nThese terms and conditions are non-negotiable and your booking to attend an investigation implies your acceptance of them.\nIf you’ve experienced panic attacks. severe anxiety or have a fear of the dark or of the paranormal world\, then this activity may not be suitable for you and you should not book.\nIf you decide to leave the investigation early for any reason including any listed  above\, then no part of your ticket can be refunded.

Enter the Luminarium and be moved\, as you step into an amazing\, wonderful\, sensory world of light\, colour and sound. \nWalk through\, sit\, or maybe even lie down\, and drink in the dazzling maze of winding paths and soaring domes\, where natural forms\, Islamic architecture\, Archimedean solids and Gothic cathedrals meld into an inspiring mix of design and engineering. \nThis walk through installation awakens all the senses\, creating emotions of wonder and enchantment for all ages. \nSo take your time\, and lose yourself in sensory bliss! \n \nWhat is a Luminarium? \nA Luminarium is a sculpture you enter for an encounter with light. \nThis immersive walk through art experience has been likened to a labyrinth\, walking through a stained glass window and even wandering through a gigantic\, strange\, breathing organic creature.  Walking through will awaken all of the senses\, creating a sense of wonder and enchantment for all ages. \nMany people find the Luminarium calming – a place for rest or meditation. Others are simply hypnotised by this amazing world of light and subtle and saturated hues. There are seven Luminaria touring the world. \n \nCome inside to wander through a 1000m2 inflatable art work\, with tunnels and cavernous domes\, experiencing a range of colour\, light and sound. The radiance of the daylight transmitted by the coloured parts of the Luminarium is surprising in its luminosity and makes a direct impact on the senses. Here the Luminarium’s pneumatic environment\, freed from the constraints of traditional architecture\, amplifies the radiance of its translucent elements. \nVisitors are excited to discover how the colours blend or resonate; how they transform faces and clothing. The subtle soundscape created specifically for the Luminarium accompanies the visitors in the experience. \nWho made it?\nThey are designed by Architects of Air founder Alan Parkinson. www.architects-of-air.com \nThe Luminaria are inspired by natural forms\, geometric solids\, Islamic and Gothic architecture. Each new creation is a maze of winding paths and inspiring domes where the visitors may lose themselves in sensory bliss.Since 1992 over 3 million visitors in more than 40 countries across 5 continents have immersed themselves in the spectacular\, luminous world of Architects of Air. \n \nOpening Times: \nGeneral admission runs from 11am to 5pm (Thurs 3rd-Sun 6th Aug) and pre booked tickets are on sale now! \nAll sessions prior to 4.30pm can be pre booked here\, or you can choose to purchase tickets “on the door” for maximum flexibility\, but we cannot guarantee a time of entry and this may be subject to a longer queue. \nThe 4.30pm and 5pm daily sessions are solely deemed as “on the door / walk up” ticket sales only. No pre booked tickets will be available for these slots. \nHow much is it?\nTickets are £6.99 per person with children under 2 free.\nYou can turn up on the day and queue to get in\, or book a priority access ticket for a chosen time slot \nPriority access tickets are taken for half hour slot times\, please turn up in good time for your slot\, there will be a separate queue for you to enter \nHow long does it last?\nWhen we experience large queues\, visitors may be asked to limit their visit to 20 minutes. The Luminaria are fully accessible\, giving access to a very broad audience\, embracing all ages\, abilities\, cultures and communities. It is a great option as part of a family day out\, introducing younger children to artistic and cultural experiences in a public space.Under 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult. \nThe structure is fully accessible for wheelchair users\, who are welcome to visit at all times and as an example\, Luminariums can be a particularly positive experience for those with autism and dementia. \nAre guide dogs allowed Inside?\nUnfortunately the Luminarium is not an environment that a dog feels comfortable in\, even a guide dog\, and a dog’s claws are not conducive to an inflatable structure of course.   So we have as a rule\, that guide dogs should remain outside and alternative ways to accompany the person inside should be found. \nAre pushchairs/prams allowed Inside?\nNo\, pushchairs/prams are to be left outside of the Luminarium \nWhat should I expect from my visit?\nOn arrival at the site you will join one of two queues – advance tickets or walk-in. We recommend purchasing tickets in advance to guarantee you can enter at your preferred time. \nThe time slot on advance tickets will indicate the window in which you have priority access to the structure. If you plan to purchase walk-up tickets on the day\, please note that only card payment is accepted. \nOn entry\, you will be required to leave your shoes and any large bags in the reception area – smaller bags can be taken inside the structure.
\nPlease note: This is not a ghost walk with play actors trying to scare you or with scenes of spoof horror. This is an evening of story telling for those fascinated in local history and the many tales and legends associated with this famous island venue. \nFor the Northwood House Paranormal investigations events on 26th & 27th October 2022 please click here: \nParanormal Investigations – Halloween Awakening – Northwood House \nOther T&C’s: \n\nFull payment must be made at the time of booking. SUMMARY:Paranormal Investigations - Halloween Awakening
DESCRIPTION:Paranormal Investigations: Halloween Awakening \nIt is said that the Isle of Wight is the most haunted county in England\, and it is believed by many that Northwood House is the most haunted building of them all. \n \nYour experience will begin with a hot drink and briefing from our paranormal experts before the lights are extinguished and the investigation begins. \nParanormal Investigations- Halloween Awakening\, takes place on the evening of 26th and 27th October 2022 \nDoors open 9.00 pm to meet the paranormal team leaders and for a briefing of the night and what to expect.

SUMMARY:The George Brannon Vectis Scenery Prints Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Ticket update: Online ticketing has now closed for this event. Please pay at the admission point fr entry. \nJoin us at Northwood House for this rare and fascinating chance to view an exhibition of over 230 iconic Isle of Wight original prints by George Brannon\, the eminent artist\, engraver and print maker collected by Island historian Ken Hicks. Between 1820 and 1862\, Brannon captured the Island’s beautiful scenery and famous landmarks through the Georgian and Victorian periods. \nWe believe this is the most comprehensive collection of prints and engravings ever assembled showing well-known Island locations including local towns\, villages and beauty spots\, many of which are still very recognisable today. \n \nThe collection provides a fantastic insight into Island life some 200 years ago. During Brannon’s lifetime the handmade prints were sometimes sold individually but most were bound in yearly editions of Brannon’s popular book “Vectis Scenery”\, first was published in 1821. This was a hugely popular publication through most of the 19th Century and has been referred to as the Island’s first tourist and souvenir guidebook due to the comprehensive illustrations and maps providing visitors with a unique piece of memorabilia in the age before photography. \nThe exhibition also features eleven original Brannon printing plates as well as some of his original engraving tools. Recent prints from some of these plates are also featured with a chance to order your own copy directly. \n \nThe exhibition is open on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd October 2022 (10am-4pm) in the Northwood House Ballroom & Dining room\, with collection experts on hands to take questions and provide additional insight where required. Northwood House will also be operating a tearoom with hot drinks\, cakes and refreshments in the Drawing room. \n General Admission (online tickets and on the door): \nAdmission to the exhibition is £6.00 on the door\, with online pre-booked tickets available for £5.00 if purchased before the weekend from the bottom of this page. \nAn exhibition guidebook is also available for £3.00 if ordered in advance with an admission ticket (or £4.00 on the door)\, with all proceeds going to Northwood House Charitable Trust Company Ltd towards restoration funds. \nNorthwood House Members: £4.00 \nStudents under 18 and university students with an ID Card: Free admission \nEnhanced Admission: \nAdmission & cream tea £10.50 (with pre-booking discount) \nChoose an arrival time and pre-book a cream tea in the Drawing Room to enjoy a pot of tea or coffee\, two home-made scones\, jam and clotted cream. Times available 11.30am\, 12.30pm\, 1.30pm and 2.30pm either day.  Times stated are for your sit down times for the cream tea\, with time to enjoy the exhibition at leisure before or afterwards. \n(Please note this pre-purchase option does not have alternatives for dietary intolerance & allergies etc\, so do not order if this applies to you. There will be options available to purchase on the day though to cater for these requirements\, thank you) \nPrinting demonstration and guided exhibition tour (12pm-2pm on both days) £15.00 \nA special chance to see prints being produced in real time from the original Brannon printing plates by fine art printer Karen Mead\, followed by a personal guided tour of the exhibition by George Brannon historian Tim Wander. \nStrictly limited numbers (20 only per session) and includes a complimentary hot drink on arrival and an exhibition guidebook. \n

SUMMARY:Comedy Social with Paul Kerensa
DESCRIPTION:Great news for comedy fans! The Comedy Social is back at Northwood House…so grab some friends\, prime your giggle muscles and get ready for our next instalment….and what a line up we have for you! \nFollowing our inaugural sell out event back in April we are delighted to present an exclusive evening of fantastic comedy with our amazing headliner\, the very renowned UK TV scriptwriter Paul Kerensa\, who’ll be performing his stand up show for us live in the Northwood House Ballroom on Friday 9th September. \n \nPaul has scripted a number of hilarious and very well known TV shows over the last 20 years including the BBC’s “Miranda” and the  “Not Going Out” series\, as well doing writing stints with Top Gear and Spitting Image…so this is a great opportunity not to miss if you’re a fan of any of these great programmes. \nJoining Paul Kerensa on stage at our second Comedy Social  is another Paul…the rising national comedy circuit star Paul Cox. Paul (number two) is also a writer and performer\, best known for his hilarious anecdotes about his personal life. Born locally in Portsmouth (don’t worry\, we won’t hold that against him!)\, he has performed stand-up all over the UK and is a member of the the London based sketch group\, Unhinged. His debut Edinburgh show\, ‘Common People’ received 4 stars from Edinburgh based magazine Ed Fest. He was also a  finalist in the prestigious Hackney Empire New Act (NATYS) in 2018 and a finalist for South Coast Comedian of the year in 2017. \n \nPaul Cox  is definitely an unsung talent on the UK comedy circuit\, performing at some of the best clubs alongside the stars\, where he is very much at home. He has supported Esther Manito on tour and appeared at the Byline Festival and Victorious in his home town of Portsmouth and we’re delighted to have him on our second Comedy Social bill! \nSo what a line up we have for you this September…we can’t wait and we hope you can’t too? \nSo let’s get social and have a laugh! \nThis is all about a sociable night out and doing something different in Cowes rather than going to the pub or out for dinner! So gather some mates or some girlfriends…or even the other half and come along! \nThe vibe is very much “comedy club”\, with a relaxed lounge and table seating plan…perfect for relaxing with friends on a fun night out! As well as the comedy we will have some great live acoustic music from popular local lads\, Mr Mojo Duo\, who’ll be here to open and close the Comedy Social and entertain us during the interval. \n \nThe Northwood House Lawn Bar will be open all through the evening for drinks and bar snacks. SUMMARY:Paul Kerensa presents "The First Broadcast!"
DESCRIPTION:Northwood House is delighted to bring you the new one-man stand-up history show from top BBC comedy writer\, Paul Kerensa on Thursday 8th September called “The First Broadcast” \n \nIt’s the first of two different shows we are hosting with Paul\, which will be followed by an alternative special stand up comedy night on Friday 9th September. \n“The First Broadcast” is a new comic historical one-man play (think ‘stand-up history’) which brings to life the true tale of the BBC’s two forgotten pioneers. It’s the BBC’s 100th anniversary in 2022\, so the show celebrates the moment by looking back at this iconic moment in broadcasting history! \nPaul plays the two genuine radio pioneers: Arthur Burrows and Peter Eckersley. 100 years ago they were opposing voices in The Marconi Company\, with very different ideas of what radio was: Burrows the prophetic dreamer looking to build a national service\, eager to inform and educate… while the rebellious Captain Eckersley just wanted to entertain and amuse his listeners. But which of them will give the first radio broadcast on what becomes known as the British Broadcasting Company? \nHear Arthur and Peter’s story\, as well as their voices\, and see one of the first 1920’s crystal radio sets. Be informed\, educated and entertained! \nJoin us for this fascinating and very original show\, performed exclusively here for us on the Island by the man who wrote it!  It’s great for history buffs\, but also by anyone who appreciates quality entertainment! \nTickets for the show are £12 each or £16.50 with a glass of house wine* on arrival\, with seating in lounge/club style. \nDoors open at 7pm\, with the performance starting promptly at 7.30pm. \nThe House Bar will be open throughout the evening for drinks including the 15 minute interval at 8.30pm. \nThe show will finish by 9.45pm\, with a chance to meet Paul afterwards at the bar! \n*House wine: 175ml glass of  House Merlot\, House Sauvignon Blanc or House Rose to choose on arrival.

SUMMARY:The Comedy Social
DESCRIPTION:Event Sold Out! \nThere is a revised running order that we emailed out to everyone yesterday (see below) due to travel issues with our London based comics. Gates now open 6.45pm with comedy starting at 7.20pm. \nGreat news for comedy fans! Northwood House presents the first of it’s new Comedy Socials…a chance to get together with some friends and have a right old laugh! \nOn Saturday 30th April we’ll be bringing three new up and coming comics from the UK comedy circuit to the Northwood House Ballroom\, who’ll get the chance to tickle our ribs with their topical and inappropriate jokes and get our belly laughs going. This is the first of three scheduled comedy socials\, with others to follow later in the year. \nDon’t expect household names though (you’d be having a laugh at this ticket price!) but these guys come very highly recommended to us by a top comedy agency…so here are the little jokers: \nPADDY YOUNG                           \n \nAbout Paddy: \n“One of the most exciting new comics I’ve seen for a long time. Confident\, assured stage presence with gags that have me laugh days afterwards. A very funny man.” Joe Lycett \n– 2Northdown New Act Finalist 2021 \n– Sellout Edinburgh Fringe 2021 \n– TV: Timewasters (ITV2)\, Random Acts (Channel 4)\, Dive In & Do It (Sky) \n  \nDAN TIERNAN \n \nAbout Dan: \nDan is a high energy act with a set full to the brim of smart offbeat jokes about his chaotic life…which is pretty full on as a 25 year old\, gay Mancunian guy with dyspraxia! \n-Chortle Awards\, Best Newcomer (2022) – Nominee \n-North West Comedy Awards\, Break Through Act of the Year (2021) – Winner \n-Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year (2021) – Third Place \n-West Didsbury Comedy Festival New Comedian of the Year (2021) – Winner \n  \nHORATIO GOULD \n \nAbout Horatio: \nHoratio is a London based writer/comedian who since making the final of ‘South Coast Comedian of the Year’ in 2019 has gone on to be one of the most exciting new voices on the comedy circuit. Horatio is known for a blend of absurd observations and dry social commentary as well as being especially good at riffing and improvising with any crowd. \nHoratio Gould is undoubtedly the SPICIEST comedian on the circuit. Been described by spice merchant’s as the ‘VINDALOO of comedy!!’ \nSo let’s get social and have a laugh! As well as the comedy we will have some great live acoustic music from local Cowes boys\, the Jimmy’s Little Fish Duo\, who’ll be here to open and close the Comedy Social and entertain us during the interval. \n \n“Jimmy’s Little Fish Duo”  \nThe Northwood House Bar will be open all through the evening from 6.45pm to 11pm for drinks and bar snacks\, with table service also available through our on-line drinks app. \nRevised schedule and line up as of 28th April (due to change in published public transport times to return our comics to London*: \n6.45pm-Doors open and meet friends in the House Bar for pre-drinks. \n7.00pm: Jimmy’s Little Fish Duo play the Ballroom. \n7.20pm: All guests seated: Our first comedian will be our MC to welcome you and warm you up for the second man on stage. \n7.35pm: Our second comedian takes the stage\, (maybe nervously\, depending on how the MC has gone down!) \n8.05: Interval-Live music and bar break \n8.25: Our MC returns to prepare you for the next act! \n8.40: Our third comedian takes you through until around 10pm\, hoping that half the audience hasn’t left by then of course! \n9.15pm: Jimmy’s Little Fish Duo & general socialising in the House Bar and Ballroom \n(*timings are approximate only\, but we will start the comedy at 7.20pm) \nTicketing \nTickets are available in advance only from the booking section at the bottom of this page\, with inclusive drinks options available in advance if required: \nSingle admission ticket only: £17.50 \nSingle admission ticket plus one choice of drink: Pint of Camden Hell’s Lager /American Pale Ale/ Medium glass of house wine (175ml)/ Bulmer’s Cider (500ml bottle)/Mermaid G&T (25ml shot): £22.50 \nSingle admission ticket plus 75cl bottle of quality house wine (Merlot/Rose/Pinot Grigio): £35.00 \nAll seating is unreserved \nThe seating is arranged in various configurations of sofas and tables and available on a first come first served basis.
