SUMMARY:The Comedy Social (Spring edition): SORRY EVENT POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:SORRY:  DUE TO FACTORS BEYOND OUR CONTROL\, THIS EVENT WILL NO LONGER TAKE PLACE ON THE 29th APRIL AND WILL BE RESCHEDULED FOR LATER IN THE YEAR. \nWE WILL CONTACT AND REFUND ALL TICKET HOLDERS BY 3rd APRIL.\nWE APOLOGISE FOR ANY DISAPPOINTMENT CAUSED…BUT WE WILL GET TOGETHER FOR A LAUGH AGAIN SOON!\n  \n \nGreat news for comedy fans! The Northwood House Comedy Social is back for 2023…a chance to get together with some friends\, forget about all the woes in the world and have a right old laugh! \nOn Saturday 29th April we’ll be bringing you the Spring Edition with three new up and coming comics from the UK comedy circuit performing live in the Northwood House Ballroom. \nThey’ll get the chance to tickle our ribs with their topical and inappropriate jokes and get our belly laughs going. We have an amazing trio of  comedians for you this time…and they won’t be holding back!! \nDon’t expect household names though (you’d be having a laugh at this ticket price!) but this lot come very highly recommended to us by a top comedy agency…so let’s meet them!: \nPAT CAHILL \n \nFrom winning Chortle Best Newcomer and Hackney Empire New Act Awards in 2012\, Pat has gone on to become a perennially daft presence on the alternative comedy scene in the UK and internationally. \nHis own style of “controlled silliness” (Fest mag) has led him to appearances on Dave’s One Night Stand\, Sky Arts\, BBC3\, BBC Radio 1\, 4 (The Now Show) and 4 Extra. Pat has written and performed 4 critically acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe Festival solo shows\, and appeared internationally in Belgium\, Switzerland\, France\, Ireland\, Denmark\, Norway\, Sweden\, The Netherlands\, and Peterborough. \nNominee Best Show\, Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival 2016 \n“Cahill strikes an unlikely balance between stretched absurdity and sophisticated introspection… This is one of the strangest and most satisfying hours of the Festival.”  ***** Edfestmag \n***** Shortcom \n**** The Skinny \n**** Fest \n“Wonderfully weird” The Guardian \n“True star quality” Evening Standard \nARIELLE SOUMA \n \nA French-Ivorian with an authentic voice in comedy and is  a force to reckon with. Strong stage presence\, punchy delivery; Arielle Souma is hilarious & blunt AS F*** ! You have been warned \n2021 Leicester comedy award nominee \n2019 BBC comedy Awards nominee \n2019 NOT SO NEW COMEDIAN OF THE YEAR finalist \n2017 NATYS finalist \n2016 frog & Bucket Manchester ” World Series finalist ” \n2016 “So You Think You’re Funny ” finalist \n“Arielle Souma is just what the comedy industry needs and should be forced upon every audience until they buckle under her spell” \n_Frankie Boyle \n“Her delivery is really strong  and lively\, she’s brilliant\, fun and totally commands the stage. She killed it and totally raised the roof. Clearly very accomplished\, she just has it.” \n_ The Stand Comedy Club \n \nDAVINA BENTLEY \nComedian Davina Bentley is a Jewish London raised comic\, inspired by high status US comics \nsuch as Michelle Wolf and Ali Wong\, who tackle subjects previously deemed off limits. Since \nstarting writing and performing stand-up comedy six years ago\, Davina has reached the finals \nof numerous competitions and performs regularly in comedy clubs including Top Secret\, \nVauxhall and Fulham. \nAs a lawyer who does not suffer fools gladly\, Davina examines the absurdity of modern life \nand pop culture – her cynical outlook is perfectly contrasted with her energetic and smile-filled \nperformances. \nCOMEDY COMPETITIONS \n\nLeicester Square Sketch Off\, Runner Up (As part of Sketch Due Dregs) 2022\nBanana Cabaret New Act Competition Winner 2020\nCherry Comedy Breakout Act of the Year Finalist\, 2020\nLeicester Square Theatre NSN Comedian of the Year Finalist\, 2019\nLeicester Square Theatre New Comedian of the Year Finalist\, 2018\nFunny Women One to Watch\, 2018\n\nEDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL SHOWS \n\n“Never Again 2”- 45 minute WIP presented by Just The Tonic – August 2022\n“Never Again”- split bill presented by Just The Tonic – 1-25 August 2019\n“One In One Out”- compilation show Free Fringe – 1-11 August 2017\n\n  \nLike the sound of that? If  so\, let’s get social and have a laugh! \nThis is all about a sociable night out and doing something different in Cowes rather than going to the pub or out for dinner! So gather some mates or some girlfriends…or even the other half and come along! \nThe vibe is very much “comedy club”\, with a relaxed lounge and table seating plan…perfect for relaxing with friends on a fun night out! As well as the comedy we will have some great live acoustic music to open and close the Comedy Social with popular local lads Jimmy’s Little Fish. \n \nThe Northwood House Bar will be open all through the evening from 6.45pm to 11pm for drinks and bar snacks\, with table service also available through our on-line drinks app. \nEvening Schedule: \n6.45pm: Doors open and meet friends in the House Bar for pre-drinks. \n7 pm: Favourite local duo Jimmy’s Little Fish play the Ballroom and get you ready for the main event! \n7.30pm: All guests seated: Our first comedian will be our MC to welcome you and warm you up for the second act on stage. \n7.40pm: Our second comedian takes the stage\, (maybe nervously\, depending on how the MC has gone down!) \n8.10: Interval-Live music from Jimmy’s Little Fish  and a bar break. \n8.30: Our MC returns to prepare you for the next act! \n8.45: Our third comedian takes you through until around 9.15pm\, hoping that half the audience hasn’t left by then of course! \n9.15pm-10.30pm: Live music from Jimmy’s Little Fish & general socialising in the House Bar and Ballroom. \n(*timings are approximate only\, but we will  aim to start the comedy at 7.20pm) \nTicketing \nTickets are available in advance only from the booking section at the bottom of this page\, with inclusive drinks options available in advance if required: \nSingle admission ticket only: £16.50 \nGroup Saver ticket (4 person): £60 (save 10% on buying 4 single tickets) \nGroup Saver & 75cl bottle of house wine: £76 ( Merlot/Rose blush/Pinot Grigio/Malbec) \nGroup Saver & 75cl bottle prosecco: £81.50 \n75cl house wine bar price is £19.00-save £3 by buying a bottle in advance \n75cl prosecco bar price is £24.00-save £3.50 by buying a bottle in advance \nAll seating is unreserved \nThe seating is arranged in various configurations of sofas and tables and available on a first come first served basis. SUMMARY:Northwood House: The Halloween Haunted History Tour (with Author Tim Wander)
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Halloween night for a special spooky evening featuring ghost stories\, myths\, legends and supernatural tales associated with Northwood House\,  the Island’s most haunted venue. \nThis is far more than just a walk though a darkened building on Halloween night – it’s a chance to unravel the history of the house and to find out why this rambling Georgian manor maybe so haunted as you tour the many rooms and passageways at night by candlelight.  See the cellars\, tunnels\, empty servant’s rooms and Nuns cells. The House has been a convent\, a Red Cross hospital and a boarding school…. and has\, of course\, for over 200 years hosted the wildest parties attended by Royalty from all over Europe. Each has made its mark and must have left memories in the very fabric of the building. \nIsland historian and House expert Tim Wander will be your guide on Halloween night\, telling you all about the haunted history of this iconic Island building… escorting you through the labyrinth of corridors and cellars. Only stopping to tell you who once lived there\, and maybe discover if they still do. \nCome with an open mind. Expert nothing\, but be prepared for everything. Tim will tell you how the paranormal pervades every corner of the house\, what the years of professional ghost hunters have seen and how science might offer… just some of the answers. \nLimited tickets. One night only (additional dates maybe added if demand dictates). \nTicket price: £17.50/person \nTickets include a medium sized glass of house wine or a 33cl bottle of premium beer or a hot drink and biscuits upon arrival. \nDoors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. \nSorry\, this event is for adults and teenage children only. Teenagers must be accompanied by their parent(s) or guardian(s). Wine and beer option available for over 18’s only. \nThis exclusive tour of the house is by candlelight and through darkened rooms\, so guests will need to take extra care while moving through the building. Those of a nervous disposition should only attend the event if accompanied by another person. \nNarrow stairs will be used to access the cellars and first floor of the building\, so some parts of the experience will not be suitable/accessible for those with walking difficulties or  needing a wheelchair for which we apologise in advance. \nFree parking is available in the rotunda car park\, with entrance through the main rotunda doors. \nSigned copies of Tim Wanders book “Ghosts of Northwood House” will be available to purchase on the night. \nEvent lasts approx 2- 2.5 hours. \nPlease note: This is not a ghost walk with play actors trying to scare you or with scenes of spoof horror. This is an evening of story telling for those fascinated in local history and the many tales and legends associated with this famous island venue. \nFor the Northwood House Paranormal investigations events on 26th & 27th October 2022 please click here: \nParanormal Investigations – Halloween Awakening – Northwood House \nOther T&C’s: \n\nFull payment must be made at the time of booking. If a customer cancels their booking 7 days or more before the day of the event\, a full refund will be given.\nNo refund will be given for cancellations less than 7 days before the event\, even if the cancellation is Covid-related.\nThere are circumstances beyond our control\, such as failure of a third party to supply their services\, where we may have to cancel an event at short notice. In this event\, a full refund of the ticket price will be made to customers. Expenses such as travel and accommodation will not be refunded.\nNo persons under the age of 13 are permitted to attend the event. SUMMARY:Paranormal Investigations - Halloween Awakening
DESCRIPTION:Paranormal Investigations: Halloween Awakening \nIt is said that the Isle of Wight is the most haunted county in England\, and it is believed by many that Northwood House is the most haunted building of them all. So there is probably no better place on the Island to carry out a real paranormal investigation to see what lies within. \nFor more than a century\, people have believed that due to the myriad of ley-lines that run beneath the Island’s landscape\, that powerful magnetic forces exist which are directly responsible for increases in supernatural energy and paranormal activity. It is widely believed in pagan circles that Northwood House lies on one such line making it centre of local attention in the spirit and ghost hunting world. \nWhatever you believe then you are probably intrigued by the prospect of the spirit world existing\, either as true believer already or as somebody who is open minded enough to the possibility. \nYou are now invited to join our experienced paranormal investigators to immerse yourselves in the deep history of this much loved\, yet seemingly haunted ancient building. \nAnd with some fascinating and unexplained  results from our previous four investigations\, who knows what or who we might uncover this time during Halloween\, when activity in the spirit world is said to reach it’s peak. Join us on one of two exclusive evenings\, where we will go in real search of  paranormal activity…be ready to experience the unexplained. \n \nYour experience will begin with a hot drink and briefing from our paranormal experts before the lights are extinguished and the investigation begins. In near-total darkness you will be split in to two groups and escorted around this Grade II listed building\, taking in three floors including the cellar\, narrow\, winding staircases and even a library that was once used as a morgue. Using professional ghost hunting equipment including EMF meters\, infra-red thermal scanners\, EVP sound recorders and motion detectors\, who knows what you might experience? At the end of the investigation the groups will meet up again to review discuss any unexplained activity. \nAll we know is this: these investigations are not for the faint-hearted and are aimed at those who believe in paranormal activity and the existence of the spirit world…or at least are open minded enough to find out more. If you’ve had a previous experience or an interaction with the spirit world or even seen a ghost\, please let our experts know upon arrival. \nParanormal Investigations- Halloween Awakening\, takes place on the evening of 26th and 27th October 2022 \nDoors open 9.00 pm to meet the paranormal team leaders and for a briefing of the night and what to expect. \n Investigations runs from 9.30pm  to midnight (approx). \nComplimentary tea\, coffee & biscuits available on arrival in the Rotunda entrance. \n A quick convenience break will take place for 10 minutes half way through the evening . \nA debrief will take place at the end of the investigation where people can share there experiences before going home. \nExclusive tickets only £22.50 per person. \nA very limited number of places are available on each night. \nOver 16’s only. \nThese are serious investigations and are conducted that way. Don’t expect actors in ghost costumes trying to frighten you. \n \nOther T&C’s: \n\nFull payment must be made at the time of booking. If a customer cancels their booking 7 days or more before the day of the event\, a full refund will be given.\nNo refund will be given for cancellations less than 7 days before the event.\nThere are circumstances beyond our control\, such as failure of a third party to supply their services\, where we may have to cancel an event at short notice. In this event\, a full refund of the ticket price will be made to customers. Expenses such as travel and accommodation will not be refunded.\nNo persons under the age of 16 are permitted to attend these investigations.\nStrictly no alcohol or drugs are permitted on site at any time. Smoking\, including the use of e-cigarettes\, is only permitted in designated areas prior to the investigations beginning.\nDue to the historic nature of the building\, accessibility is often limited. Regrettably therefore\, these investigations are unsuitable for anyone with a disability or mobility impairment which could directly affect their safe navigation or evacuation of the house.\nCustomers should be aware that they are attending the event at their own risk. Northwood House Charitable Trust Company Ltd  (NHCTCL) will not be responsible for any injuries sustained nor loss or damage to property. NHCTCL carries Public Liability Insurance but due to the locations being beyond what would normally be available to the public\, we recommend customers have their own third party liability insurance.\nThese investigations will take place in near-total darkness and occasionally confined spaces. As such\, they may be unsuitable for anyone with relevant phobias.\nCustomers are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible manner\, and with courtesy and respect towards the investigation team and fellow customers. Abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.\nNHCTCL is not responsible for any views expressed during the investigations. Our team of investigators offer their own perspectives and we expect customers to hold an open mind throughout the night. It is impossible to guarantee what\, if any\, activity you might experience during the investigation. Your experience could be minimal or intense\, and we accept no responsibility for what might occur as a result of paranormal activity.\nDue to the late finishing times of these events\, we ask that you respect our neighbours and leave Northwood House and the surrounding Parkland quietly. Please ensure you are not too tired to drive home.\nThese terms and conditions are non-negotiable and your booking to attend an investigation implies your acceptance of them.\nIf you’ve experienced panic attacks. severe anxiety or have a fear of the dark or of the paranormal world\, then this activity may not be suitable for you and you should not book.\nIf you decide to leave the investigation early for any reason including any listed  above\, then no part of your ticket can be refunded.

SUMMARY:The George Brannon Vectis Scenery Prints Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Ticket update: Online ticketing has now closed for this event. Please pay at the admission point fr entry. \nJoin us at Northwood House for this rare and fascinating chance to view an exhibition of over 230 iconic Isle of Wight original prints by George Brannon\, the eminent artist\, engraver and print maker collected by Island historian Ken Hicks. Between 1820 and 1862\, Brannon captured the Island’s beautiful scenery and famous landmarks through the Georgian and Victorian periods. \nWe believe this is the most comprehensive collection of prints and engravings ever assembled showing well-known Island locations including local towns\, villages and beauty spots\, many of which are still very recognisable today. \n \nThe collection provides a fantastic insight into Island life some 200 years ago. During Brannon’s lifetime the handmade prints were sometimes sold individually but most were bound in yearly editions of Brannon’s popular book “Vectis Scenery”\, first was published in 1821. This was a hugely popular publication through most of the 19th Century and has been referred to as the Island’s first tourist and souvenir guidebook due to the comprehensive illustrations and maps providing visitors with a unique piece of memorabilia in the age before photography. \nThe exhibition also features eleven original Brannon printing plates as well as some of his original engraving tools. Recent prints from some of these plates are also featured with a chance to order your own copy directly. \n \nThe exhibition is open on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd October 2022 (10am-4pm) in the Northwood House Ballroom & Dining room\, with collection experts on hands to take questions and provide additional insight where required. Northwood House will also be operating a tearoom with hot drinks\, cakes and refreshments in the Drawing room. \n General Admission (online tickets and on the door): \nAdmission to the exhibition is £6.00 on the door\, with online pre-booked tickets available for £5.00 if purchased before the weekend from the bottom of this page. \nAn exhibition guidebook is also available for £3.00 if ordered in advance with an admission ticket (or £4.00 on the door)\, with all proceeds going to Northwood House Charitable Trust Company Ltd towards restoration funds. \nNorthwood House Members: £4.00 \nStudents under 18 and university students with an ID Card: Free admission \nEnhanced Admission: \nAdmission & cream tea £10.50 (with pre-booking discount) \nChoose an arrival time and pre-book a cream tea in the Drawing Room to enjoy a pot of tea or coffee\, two home-made scones\, jam and clotted cream. Times available 11.30am\, 12.30pm\, 1.30pm and 2.30pm either day.  Times stated are for your sit down times for the cream tea\, with time to enjoy the exhibition at leisure before or afterwards. \n(Please note this pre-purchase option does not have alternatives for dietary intolerance & allergies etc\, so do not order if this applies to you. There will be options available to purchase on the day though to cater for these requirements\, thank you) \nPrinting demonstration and guided exhibition tour (12pm-2pm on both days) £15.00 \nA special chance to see prints being produced in real time from the original Brannon printing plates by fine art printer Karen Mead\, followed by a personal guided tour of the exhibition by George Brannon historian Tim Wander. \nStrictly limited numbers (20 only per session) and includes a complimentary hot drink on arrival and an exhibition guidebook. \n

SUMMARY:Paul Kerensa presents "The First Broadcast!"
DESCRIPTION:Northwood House is delighted to bring you the new one-man stand-up history show from top BBC comedy writer\, Paul Kerensa on Thursday 8th September called “The First Broadcast” \n \nIt’s the first of two different shows we are hosting with Paul\, which will be followed by an alternative special stand up comedy night on Friday 9th September. \n“The First Broadcast” is a new comic historical one-man play (think ‘stand-up history’) which brings to life the true tale of the BBC’s two forgotten pioneers. It’s the BBC’s 100th anniversary in 2022\, so the show celebrates the moment by looking back at this iconic moment in broadcasting history! \nPaul plays the two genuine radio pioneers: Arthur Burrows and Peter Eckersley. 100 years ago they were opposing voices in The Marconi Company\, with very different ideas of what radio was: Burrows the prophetic dreamer looking to build a national service\, eager to inform and educate… while the rebellious Captain Eckersley just wanted to entertain and amuse his listeners. But which of them will give the first radio broadcast on what becomes known as the British Broadcasting Company? \nHear Arthur and Peter’s story\, as well as their voices\, and see one of the first 1920’s crystal radio sets. Be informed\, educated and entertained! \nJoin us for this fascinating and very original show\, performed exclusively here for us on the Island by the man who wrote it!  It’s great for history buffs\, but also by anyone who appreciates quality entertainment! \nTickets for the show are £12 each or £16.50 with a glass of house wine* on arrival\, with seating in lounge/club style. \nDoors open at 7pm\, with the performance starting promptly at 7.30pm. \nThe House Bar will be open throughout the evening for drinks including the 15 minute interval at 8.30pm. \nThe show will finish by 9.45pm\, with a chance to meet Paul afterwards at the bar! \n*House wine: 175ml glass of  House Merlot\, House Sauvignon Blanc or House Rose to choose on arrival.

SUMMARY:Northwood House Wedding Open Weekend-(with Covid safe booking slots)
DESCRIPTION:Get inspired at the Northwood House Wedding Open Weekend- with advance booking slots for Covid safety. \n \nIt’s hard to beat Northwood House in Cowes as a place to get married and celebrate the most special day of your life. \nOn Saturday\, 15th and Sunday\, 16th January we are hosting our Covid-safe Wedding Open Weekend\, where couples have the opportunity to book a time slot and come along and see what the venue has to offer.  You can meet a member of our wedding team who will show you the rooms we have to offer for ceremonies and receptions\, give you an idea of costs and then let you browse the exhibitor stands and displays for more inspiration. \nOur team can offer their helpful knowledge and advice making it the perfect chance to find out everything you need to know in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.  If you have just got engaged\, this is the perfect place to start your search for a wedding venue and some of the best Island wedding suppliers. \nWith Covid safety now on everyone’s mind\, couples will need to book a time slot to visit the open weekend using the booking system below to spread arrival times and minimise the amount of persons in the venue at any one time\, making it as safe as possible to visit.  Our suppliers will have set up display stands\, but will not be in attendance personally to answer any questions and take enquiries for services. \nCouples will be required to follow the latest Government guidance at the time for attending events and indoor venues (which we will update in advance of the weekend)\, but you will have to: \n∙ Sanitise hands on arrival and at regular intervals during the visit.\n∙Not attend the event if you have tested positive for Covid\, have Covid symptoms\, feel unwell or are self isolating for any reason.\n∙ Wear a face covering during the visit for everyone’s added peace of mind.\n∙Remain socially distanced from others while in the venue.\nOur wedding team will be doing the same and will have taken a negative lateral flow test before being at attendance. \nBooking slots are available every 15 minutes for couples and other family members attending\, with the likelihood of there being less than three to four couples or small groups in the venue at any one time during the day along with three of our wedding team\, keeping social interactions to an absolute minimal. Of course couples/groups can stay and look/chat with us as long as they wish which may result in slightly larger numbers inside at anyone time. \nDarren Cool\, General Manager of the venue said\, \n“People love Northwood House as a venue\, it has so much freedom to make a very bespoke and special celebration.  Our iconic Grade II* listed property is one of the Island’s most popular wedding venues\, boasting a romantic charm that couples love.  We regularly host over 25 ceremonies and receptions across the year\, so the Wedding Open Weekend is the perfect opportunity to come and have a look around\, chat over your potential requirements and hopefully get inspired by what you see. \nWe’ve done our best to minimise the risks of Covid by making booking slots available\, which couples must book in advance on our website to attend. This will help reduce social interactions in the venue over the weekend\, making it safer for everyone to attend. \nA number of key Island wedding suppliers will have dressed the venue and set up promotional displays\, these aren’t manned on the day so couples can wander around without anyone trying to sell their services which is much more relaxing for those who attend. “ \nThe Northwood House Wedding Open Weekend is free to enter\, with doors open between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm on the days.  Just book your arrival time slot below in advance and turn up at your time to enter this friendly and informal event. \nIf you are unable to make the Open Weekend\, couples can arrange a free no obligation viewing of the venue at a time to suit by phoning 293642.  Some great wedding dates are still available for 2022 and 2023 with bookings now being taken up to the end of 2024. \n
