SUMMARY:Comedy Social with Paul Kerensa
DESCRIPTION:Great news for comedy fans! The Comedy Social is back at Northwood House…so grab some friends\, prime your giggle muscles and get ready for our next instalment….and what a line up we have for you! \nFollowing our inaugural sell out event back in April we are delighted to present an exclusive evening of fantastic comedy with our amazing headliner\, the very renowned UK TV scriptwriter Paul Kerensa\, who’ll be performing his stand up show for us live in the Northwood House Ballroom on Friday 9th September. \n \nPaul has scripted a number of hilarious and very well known TV shows over the last 20 years including the BBC’s “Miranda” and the  “Not Going Out” series\, as well doing writing stints with Top Gear and Spitting Image…so this is a great opportunity not to miss if you’re a fan of any of these great programmes. \nJoining Paul Kerensa on stage at our second Comedy Social  is another Paul…the rising national comedy circuit star Paul Cox. Paul (number two) is also a writer and performer\, best known for his hilarious anecdotes about his personal life. Born locally in Portsmouth (don’t worry\, we won’t hold that against him!)\, he has performed stand-up all over the UK and is a member of the the London based sketch group\, Unhinged. His debut Edinburgh show\, ‘Common People’ received 4 stars from Edinburgh based magazine Ed Fest. He was also a  finalist in the prestigious Hackney Empire New Act (NATYS) in 2018 and a finalist for South Coast Comedian of the year in 2017. \n \nPaul Cox  is definitely an unsung talent on the UK comedy circuit\, performing at some of the best clubs alongside the stars\, where he is very much at home. He has supported Esther Manito on tour and appeared at the Byline Festival and Victorious in his home town of Portsmouth and we’re delighted to have him on our second Comedy Social bill! \nSo what a line up we have for you this September…we can’t wait and we hope you can’t too? \nSo let’s get social and have a laugh! \nThis is all about a sociable night out and doing something different in Cowes rather than going to the pub or out for dinner! So gather some mates or some girlfriends…or even the other half and come along! \nThe vibe is very much “comedy club”\, with a relaxed lounge and table seating plan…perfect for relaxing with friends on a fun night out! As well as the comedy we will have some great live acoustic music from popular local lads\, Mr Mojo Duo\, who’ll be here to open and close the Comedy Social and entertain us during the interval. \n \nThe Northwood House Lawn Bar will be open all through the evening for drinks and bar snacks. SUMMARY:Paul Kerensa presents "The First Broadcast!"
DESCRIPTION:Northwood House is delighted to bring you the new one-man stand-up history show from top BBC comedy writer\, Paul Kerensa on Thursday 8th September called “The First Broadcast” \n \nIt’s the first of two different shows we are hosting with Paul\, which will be followed by an alternative special stand up comedy night on Friday 9th September. \n“The First Broadcast” is a new comic historical one-man play (think ‘stand-up history’) which brings to life the true tale of the BBC’s two forgotten pioneers. It’s the BBC’s 100th anniversary in 2022\, so the show celebrates the moment by looking back at this iconic moment in broadcasting history! \nPaul plays the two genuine radio pioneers: Arthur Burrows and Peter Eckersley. 100 years ago they were opposing voices in The Marconi Company\, with very different ideas of what radio was: Burrows the prophetic dreamer looking to build a national service\, eager to inform and educate… while the rebellious Captain Eckersley just wanted to entertain and amuse his listeners. But which of them will give the first radio broadcast on what becomes known as the British Broadcasting Company? \nHear Arthur and Peter’s story\, as well as their voices\, and see one of the first 1920’s crystal radio sets. Be informed\, educated and entertained! \nJoin us for this fascinating and very original show\, performed exclusively here for us on the Island by the man who wrote it!  It’s great for history buffs\, but also by anyone who appreciates quality entertainment! \nTickets for the show are £12 each or £16.50 with a glass of house wine* on arrival\, with seating in lounge/club style. \nDoors open at 7pm\, with the performance starting promptly at 7.30pm. \nThe House Bar will be open throughout the evening for drinks including the 15 minute interval at 8.30pm. \nThe show will finish by 9.45pm\, with a chance to meet Paul afterwards at the bar! \n*House wine: 175ml glass of  House Merlot\, House Sauvignon Blanc or House Rose to choose on arrival.

SUMMARY:The Comedy Social
DESCRIPTION:Event Sold Out! \nThere is a revised running order that we emailed out to everyone yesterday (see below) due to travel issues with our London based comics. Gates now open 6.45pm with comedy starting at 7.20pm. \nGreat news for comedy fans! Northwood House presents the first of it’s new Comedy Socials…a chance to get together with some friends and have a right old laugh! \nOn Saturday 30th April we’ll be bringing three new up and coming comics from the UK comedy circuit to the Northwood House Ballroom\, who’ll get the chance to tickle our ribs with their topical and inappropriate jokes and get our belly laughs going. This is the first of three scheduled comedy socials\, with others to follow later in the year. \nDon’t expect household names though (you’d be having a laugh at this ticket price!) but these guys come very highly recommended to us by a top comedy agency…so here are the little jokers: \nPADDY YOUNG                           \n \nAbout Paddy: \n“One of the most exciting new comics I’ve seen for a long time. Confident\, assured stage presence with gags that have me laugh days afterwards. A very funny man.” Joe Lycett \n– 2Northdown New Act Finalist 2021 \n– Sellout Edinburgh Fringe 2021 \n– TV: Timewasters (ITV2)\, Random Acts (Channel 4)\, Dive In & Do It (Sky) \n  \nDAN TIERNAN \n \nAbout Dan: \nDan is a high energy act with a set full to the brim of smart offbeat jokes about his chaotic life…which is pretty full on as a 25 year old\, gay Mancunian guy with dyspraxia! \n-Chortle Awards\, Best Newcomer (2022) – Nominee \n-North West Comedy Awards\, Break Through Act of the Year (2021) – Winner \n-Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year (2021) – Third Place \n-West Didsbury Comedy Festival New Comedian of the Year (2021) – Winner \n  \nHORATIO GOULD \n \nAbout Horatio: \nHoratio is a London based writer/comedian who since making the final of ‘South Coast Comedian of the Year’ in 2019 has gone on to be one of the most exciting new voices on the comedy circuit. Horatio is known for a blend of absurd observations and dry social commentary as well as being especially good at riffing and improvising with any crowd. \nHoratio Gould is undoubtedly the SPICIEST comedian on the circuit. Been described by spice merchant’s as the ‘VINDALOO of comedy!!’ \nSo let’s get social and have a laugh! As well as the comedy we will have some great live acoustic music from local Cowes boys\, the Jimmy’s Little Fish Duo\, who’ll be here to open and close the Comedy Social and entertain us during the interval. \n \n“Jimmy’s Little Fish Duo”  \nThe Northwood House Bar will be open all through the evening from 6.45pm to 11pm for drinks and bar snacks\, with table service also available through our on-line drinks app. \nRevised schedule and line up as of 28th April (due to change in published public transport times to return our comics to London*: \n6.45pm-Doors open and meet friends in the House Bar for pre-drinks. \n7.00pm: Jimmy’s Little Fish Duo play the Ballroom. \n7.20pm: All guests seated: Our first comedian will be our MC to welcome you and warm you up for the second man on stage. \n7.35pm: Our second comedian takes the stage\, (maybe nervously\, depending on how the MC has gone down!) \n8.05: Interval-Live music and bar break \n8.25: Our MC returns to prepare you for the next act! \n8.40: Our third comedian takes you through until around 10pm\, hoping that half the audience hasn’t left by then of course! \n9.15pm: Jimmy’s Little Fish Duo & general socialising in the House Bar and Ballroom \n(*timings are approximate only\, but we will start the comedy at 7.20pm) \nTicketing \nTickets are available in advance only from the booking section at the bottom of this page\, with inclusive drinks options available in advance if required: \nSingle admission ticket only: £17.50 \nSingle admission ticket plus one choice of drink: Pint of Camden Hell’s Lager /American Pale Ale/ Medium glass of house wine (175ml)/ Bulmer’s Cider (500ml bottle)/Mermaid G&T (25ml shot): £22.50 \nSingle admission ticket plus 75cl bottle of quality house wine (Merlot/Rose/Pinot Grigio): £35.00 \nAll seating is unreserved \nThe seating is arranged in various configurations of sofas and tables and available on a first come first served basis. We recommend groups of 3 or more people arrive early to get seats together as we cannot guarantee seats together for groups or parties. You may have to seating and tables with other guests\, but that’s how we role at the comedy social! \nAge suitability and restrictions\nThe comedy social  is strictly for 18 year old’s and over only due to the possible adult-themed content of the comedy. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone without valid ID/proof of age whom the staff management deem to appear to be underage. \nComedy content warning\nWe have no control over the content of the comedian’s routines (and what would be the fun of that if we did?) but as with all adult comedy you should expect to hear some rude and offensive language and listen to content with strong adult and controversial themes.  If you are likely to be offended by such content then you should not book\, as no refunds can be given. \nDisclaimer: The material and opinions shared by the comedians are their own and are not representative in any way of  the venue and organisers (Northwood House Charitable Trust Company Ltd). \nPhotography \nWe allow photography during performances  (except in specific circumstances if requested in advance by a comedian)\, but any video or sound recording via a mobile phone or other recording device  is strictly prohibited. \nHeckling/disruption during the event\nWe have a strict policy of no heckling whilst the comedians are performing their routine. This is disruptive to audience members surrounding you and also to the comedians on stage. Remember\, people have paid to listen to the acts\, not to you! Anybody repeatedly talking loudly/heckling/shouting out/acting in a disrespectful manner will be asked to leave immediately without a refund…you have been warned! \nCancellations/Refunds \nUnless the event is cancelled or rescheduled in advance\, all tickets for The Comedy Social  are non refundable…sorry. \nSo are you up for a laugh? Then get booking below. Seats are limited (and that’s not a joke)..so don’t leave it too long! \n

SUMMARY:Northwood House Wedding Open Weekend-(with Covid safe booking slots)
DESCRIPTION:Get inspired at the Northwood House Wedding Open Weekend- with advance booking slots for Covid safety. \n \nIt’s hard to beat Northwood House in Cowes as a place to get married and celebrate the most special day of your life. \nOn Saturday\, 15th and Sunday\, 16th January we are hosting our Covid-safe Wedding Open Weekend\, where couples have the opportunity to book a time slot and come along and see what the venue has to offer.  You can meet a member of our wedding team who will show you the rooms we have to offer for ceremonies and receptions\, give you an idea of costs and then let you browse the exhibitor stands and displays for more inspiration. \nOur team can offer their helpful knowledge and advice making it the perfect chance to find out everything you need to know in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.  If you have just got engaged\, this is the perfect place to start your search for a wedding venue and some of the best Island wedding suppliers. \nWith Covid safety now on everyone’s mind\, couples will need to book a time slot to visit the open weekend using the booking system below to spread arrival times and minimise the amount of persons in the venue at any one time\, making it as safe as possible to visit.  Our suppliers will have set up display stands\, but will not be in attendance personally to answer any questions and take enquiries for services. \nCouples will be required to follow the latest Government guidance at the time for attending events and indoor venues (which we will update in advance of the weekend)\, but you will have to: \n∙ Sanitise hands on arrival and at regular intervals during the visit.\n∙Not attend the event if you have tested positive for Covid\, have Covid symptoms\, feel unwell or are self isolating for any reason.\n∙ Wear a face covering during the visit for everyone’s added peace of mind.\n∙Remain socially distanced from others while in the venue.\nOur wedding team will be doing the same and will have taken a negative lateral flow test before being at attendance. \nBooking slots are available every 15 minutes for couples and other family members attending\, with the likelihood of there being less than three to four couples or small groups in the venue at any one time during the day along with three of our wedding team\, keeping social interactions to an absolute minimal. Of course couples/groups can stay and look/chat with us as long as they wish which may result in slightly larger numbers inside at anyone time. \nDarren Cool\, General Manager of the venue said\, \n“People love Northwood House as a venue\, it has so much freedom to make a very bespoke and special celebration.  Our iconic Grade II* listed property is one of the Island’s most popular wedding venues\, boasting a romantic charm that couples love.  We regularly host over 25 ceremonies and receptions across the year\, so the Wedding Open Weekend is the perfect opportunity to come and have a look around\, chat over your potential requirements and hopefully get inspired by what you see. \nWe’ve done our best to minimise the risks of Covid by making booking slots available\, which couples must book in advance on our website to attend. This will help reduce social interactions in the venue over the weekend\, making it safer for everyone to attend. \nA number of key Island wedding suppliers will have dressed the venue and set up promotional displays\, these aren’t manned on the day so couples can wander around without anyone trying to sell their services which is much more relaxing for those who attend. “ \nThe Northwood House Wedding Open Weekend is free to enter\, with doors open between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm on the days.  Just book your arrival time slot below in advance and turn up at your time to enter this friendly and informal event. \nIf you are unable to make the Open Weekend\, couples can arrange a free no obligation viewing of the venue at a time to suit by phoning 293642.  Some great wedding dates are still available for 2022 and 2023 with bookings now being taken up to the end of 2024. \n

SUMMARY:August Festival of Gin @The Lawn Bar
DESCRIPTION:Gin lovers can at last rejoice again this summer!  The Northwood House Lawn Bar in Cowes brings you a very special event to enjoy across a whole summer month including Cowes Week 2021! \nThe August Festival of Gin (which will actually begin on Friday\, 30th July to coincide with the Cowes Week International Sailing Regatta) will run until Monday\, 30th August on all our bar trading days. \n    \nUp to 100 incredible gins from across the UK\, Europe and the rest of the world will be available everyday for customers to enjoy from our Lawn Bar table service menu\, all served to perfection with a Fever Tree tonic and recommended garnish for maximum enjoyment. \n \nThe event\, sponsored by our great friends at Mermaid Isle of Wight Gin will allow customers to try an unrivaled variety of gins of all type\, from artisan small batch award winners to some of the craziest and weirdest ones money can buy!  It’s a great opportunity to explore the world of gin and find your new future favourite. \nThe August Festival of Gin replaces our usual Isle of Wight Gin Festival for this year only while we continue to tread a careful and responsible path out of the Covid pandemic.  So\, alas\, no fancy bar to crowd at this year due our concerns about Covid anxiety from our regular customers.  Instead enjoy the incredible gin selection from the safety of your table and have then delivered to you by our Lawn Bar Team! \n \nIn terms of Covid safety\, we will be encouraging all our customers to take personal responsibility for making sure they are keeping themselves as safe as they can at the Lawn Bar this summer\, but please do respect other peoples wishes to remain more socially distant than normal and to wear face coverings inside our venue toilets if required.  If you can\, please sanitise your hands upon entry to the lawns too.  With table service in operation\, capacity will be limited to the number of seats we have on the lawns\, as bar queuing will not be permitted until further notice.  Please also remember we are predominantly an outside venue\, with a limited amount of marquee seating inside. \nSo gather some friends and head on down for this gin-spirational event this Cowes Week and August…its going to be Gin o’clock every day we’re open!
